ROAR 2013: Don’t Let Your Arthritis Kill You – Take Action!

Learn how arthritis can cause heart attacks, strokes and blood clots and what you can do for prevention

Join us at an interactive public forum hosted by:

The Consumer Advisory Board
of the Arthritis Research Centre of Canada

What is ROAR?
To ensure that the latest research reaches people with arthritis, members of the Consumer Advisory Board (people with arthritis) are hosting ROAR (Reaching Out with Arthritis Research). ROAR is an annual interactive, educational forum that was developed in British Columbia eight years ago. At this event, the latest research findings are presented to people with arthritis, their family members and the public, in easy-to-understand language.

What can I expect at ROAR 2013?
This year the scientific researchers at the Arthritis Research Centre of Canada (ARC) will be speaking about how arthritis causes heart attacks, strokes and blood clots. They will identify who is most likely to die early and explain what can be done to prevent this early death. The presentations are:
  • Dr. Antonio Aviña - How arthritis causes heart attacks, strokes and blood clots. Who will die early? Will it be you?
  • Dr. Diane Lacaille - What the research says about preventing early death.
  • Dr. John Esdaile - What you can do for prevention - making your action plan.
These presentations will be followed by a small group session led by ROAR volunteers. This session is designed to provide patients, family members and friends, with an opportunity to question and discuss the subject matter covered by each speaker. After each presentation and at the end of the event, the Speakers Panel will provide an opportunity for attendees to ask questions.

Why should I attend?
The face-to-face meeting and live online interaction with researchers will give ROAR attendees a unique opportunity to raise personal concerns and pertinent questions with ARC researchers, while at the same time sharing the reality of living with arthritis to those who are engaged in steering and shaping the future directions of the arthritis research world.

We encourage everyone with arthritis, their friends, family members, and the interested public to attend ROAR and learn about saving lives by preventing heart attacks, strokes and blood clots.
