ROAR 2015: Osteoarthritis and You – What you can do NOW!

Join us at an interactive public forum hosted by the Arthritis Patient Advisory Board of Arthritis Research Canada.

What do a rheumatologist, an orthopaedic surgeon, a clinical bio- mechanist, a clinical health researcher and an arthritis patient/consumer advocate have in common? They are all osteoarthritis (OA) experts, who will speak at ROAR 2015.

What do people with OA want to know? We are honoured to have six speakers share their research with us, guided by topics that represent the patient voice.

What is ROAR?

To ensure that the latest research reaches people with arthritis, members of the Arthritis Patient Advisory Board (people with arthritis) are hosting ROAR (Reaching Out with Arthritis Research). ROAR is an interactive, educational forum that was developed in British Columbia ten years ago. At this event, the latest research findings are presented to people with arthritis, their family members and the public, in an easy-to-understand language.

What can I expect at ROAR 2015?

Patients, researchers and health care providers will gather to discuss the latest research on osteoarthritis, arthritis screening, treatment options and the decision-making process, joint replacement surgery and more.

Each presentation will be followed by a short Question and Answer period designed to further discussion both online and in person. To end the event a Speakers Panel will provide an opportunity for attendees to join the dialogue and ask questions.

This year's presentations include:
  1. Cheryl Koehn – OA Screening: There's an APP for that!
  2. Dr. Jolanda Cibere – Diagnosis OA: what's next?
  3. Dr. Michael Hunt – What to do if I don't want drugs or surgery?
  4. Judit Takacs – Balance and Mobility
  5. Dr. Deborah Marshall – The RAW deal on Knee Replacement – Are you Ready, Able and Willing?
  6. Dr. Nelson Greidanus – Total Joint Decisions
Attendees can also join the online conversation with the hashtag #eROAR.

Why should I attend?

This is a great opportunity to connect with other people with arthritis, healthcare professionals and researchers. The face-to-face meeting and live online interaction with researchers will give attendees a unique opportunity to raise personal concerns and questions with ARC researchers, while at the same time sharing the reality of living with arthritis to those who are engaged in steering and shaping the future directions of research.
