Feasibility and acceptability of a virtual adolescent self-management program for juvenile idiopathic arthritis

In this episode of Arthritis At Home, Ellen Wang, Programs Coordinator, Arthritis Consumer Experts, speaks to Dr. Heinrike Schmeling, a Professor at University of Calgary and a Pediatric Rheumatologist who is currently practicing at the Alberta Children’s Hospital. Her team was recently awarded the Strategic Operating Grant for their project titled A pilot randomized controlled trial: Feasibility and acceptability of a virtual adolescent self-management program for juvenile idiopathic arthritis. Ellen and Dr. Schmeling talk about how this project came to be and the problem with lost follow up when youth patients living with arthritis transition to adult care. Their project is a first step in testing a new model of self-management that emphasizes independence and aims to build confidence in young patients.
